Fish with “Anyil” confiscated in Carbon Public Market

The Department of Vetenirary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) in Cebu City seized a total of five kilos of fish believed to be soaked in a blueing substance.

The substance more known as “Anyil”, was used to make the fish look more fresh, according to DVMF chief Dr. Alice Utlang.

Personnel from the Fisheries Division conducted the inspection and confiscation. (Photo from Dr. Alice Utlang’s FB account)

In her Facebook post, Utlang said this is in violation of City Ordinance No. 2006.

Based on the certificate of confiscation, the confiscated fish is a type of island mackerel or locally known as “anduhaw”.

The owner of the stall in Carbon Public Market selling these fish is Juvel Largo.

Dr. Utlang advised public to be more careful in buying fish.

If you want to make sure it doesn’t have this substance, you can bring a cotton ball or tissue and insert it on the fish gills.

If it turns blue, then you shouldn’t buy it because it has “Anyil”.//
