TAGBILARAN CITY — Twenty-five personnel of the Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corporation (ABAC), operator of the Bohol–Panglao International Airport (BPIA), have completed specialized Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) training aimed at strengthening the airport’s operational readiness, technical capability, and compliance with international aviation standards.
The training, conducted from June 29 to July 3, brought together Airfield Lighting and Power Technicians (ALPTs) and other airport personnel involved in the operation and maintenance of airfield systems.
The program was facilitated by the Airfield Training Company (ATC), an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-accredited training provider based in Manchester, United Kingdom.
According to ABAC, the training focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge and technical skills in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Airfield Ground Lighting systems, which are critical to the safe movement of aircraft on runways, taxiways, and approach areas, particularly during nighttime operations and periods of low visibility.
The course covered airfield lighting principles, electrical safety, preventive and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, and industry best practices to ensure the reliability and operational readiness of airport lighting infrastructure.
Upon passing the required examinations, participants will receive internationally recognized AGL1 and AGL2 certifications.
The initiative followed a similar training program recently completed at Laguindingan International Airport, reflecting Aboitiz InfraCapital’s efforts to strengthen technical expertise and operational excellence across its airport network.
The training also supports compliance with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), helping ensure that Bohol–Panglao International Airport maintains the technical capabilities required for safe and continuous airport operations.
The program was developed in consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC), highlighting efforts to enhance technical competency and operational preparedness in the country’s aviation sector.
ABAC General Manager Aldwin Uy said strengthening the technical capabilities of airport personnel helps ensure that the infrastructure supporting passenger travel remains reliable, efficient, and dependable.
CAAP Area 7 Manager Jinky Zaragosa-Ang said continuous investment in specialized technical training is essential as passenger traffic grows, helping airports maintain consistent, efficient, and safe operations.
Bohol–Panglao International Airport serves as the province’s primary air gateway, connecting Bohol to domestic and international destinations while supporting tourism, trade, and economic activity.
ABAC said it will continue investing in its workforce and operational systems to provide safe, reliable, and future-ready airport services.
