TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A widow and her five children now have a safe and permanent home after the 121st unit under the Libreng Alagad ug Balay (LAB) Project was officially turned over to them in Barangay Mantalongon, Sagbayan, on Friday, June 26.
The beneficiary, Genara Llanto Añosa, is a farmer who has struggled for years to provide a permanent home for her family. Following the death of her husband due to complications from diabetes, Añosa single-handedly raised their five children while enduring a series of hardships.
Their original home was destroyed by the magnitude 7.2 Bohol earthquake in 2013. Although the family later received a replacement house through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), their recovery was again disrupted when Typhoon Odette severely damaged their home in 2021.
Since then, the family had continued rebuilding their lives until they were selected as beneficiaries of the LAB Project and the Balay sa Paglaum housing initiative, a personal advocacy of Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado and 2nd District Rep. Vanessa Aumentado.
The newly built house provides the Añosa family with a secure and decent place to live, symbolizing a fresh start after years of adversity.
The project was completed through the joint efforts of the local government of Sagbayan under Mayor Asuncion Ynañez, the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit of the Bohol Police Provincial Office headed by Lt. Col. Joseph Berondo, the Sagbayan Municipal Police Station led by Capt. Eric Binangbang, the Barangay Mantalongon Council headed by Barangay Captain Pedro Bitang Jr., and volunteers who contributed their time and labor.
The LAB Project, a flagship community initiative of the Bohol Police Provincial Office under Provincial Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr., continues to provide homes to underprivileged Boholano families while promoting hope, dignity, and improved living conditions through partnerships with local government units and community volunteers.
