TAGBILARAN CITY — After 12 years in professional boxing, John Virgel Vitor, also known as “El Valiente,” has officially hung up his gloves.
The announcement was made by PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions through its official Facebook page.
“PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions proudly honors and thanks John Virgel ‘El Valiente’ Vitor as he officially retires from professional boxing,” PMI said in a statement.
“Your journey inside the ring was filled with courage, sacrifice, discipline, and unforgettable victories. You carried the name of Bohol and the Philippines with pride every time you stepped into battle.”
“Thank you for inspiring aspiring fighters and boxing fans through your warrior spirit and dedication to the sport. Your achievements and legacy will always be remembered by the boxing community. PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions is proud to have been part of your incredible journey.”
“Congratulations on an amazing boxing career, Champion. The gloves may be hung up, but your legacy will live forever.”
Vitor later confirmed his retirement from the sport that he had long embraced and loved.
“Daghan mo nakurat sa akung pag undang pero ako may nasayod sa akong lawas, maong mas pilion nko ang ikaayo, salamat sa inyong hugot nga supporta,” he said.
The 28-year-old native of Tagbilaran City said he is now prioritizing his health and well-being.
Vitor ended his professional career with a record of 24 wins and five losses, including 17 knockouts.
His knockout loss to Artur Subkhankulov in Russia in February this year turned out to be the final bout of his career.
Despite his retirement, Vitor leaves behind a lasting legacy in Philippine boxing. He is a former two-time World Boxing Organization Oriental super featherweight champion and former WBC Asia Silver super featherweight king — achievements he proudly carried throughout his career.
