DANAO, Bohol — After nearly six months of searching, the remains of an 80-year-old woman who had gone missing in Buenavista town were found in a grassy hillside in Barangay Tabok here on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The victim was identified as Maxima “Sening” Escabusa-Maghanoy, a resident of Panghagban, Buenavista.

Authorities said the remains were already skeletal and showed signs of exposure, with portions believed to have been affected by a grass fire in the area.

The family positively identified the remains through a ring worn by the victim, with confirmation further strengthened by DNA testing.

Escabusa-Maghanoy was last seen on October 29, 2025. She had been diagnosed with dementia prior to her disappearance.

A medico-legal examination found no indication of foul play in her death, according to authorities.

In an emotional message, her daughter, Fe Maghanoy-Suarez, expressed grief over her mother’s passing while thanking those who helped in the search.

“Ma… sakit kaayo nga ni biya ka, pero dako gihapon mi’g pasalamat nga nakita ka namo. Salamat kaayo sa nakakita ug sa nitabang namo ug sa tanang kaigsuonan ug kaparintihan,” she said.

She added that her mother’s wake would be held in Cansungay, Pilar, Bohol, and also extended gratitude to those who shared information during the search for her missing mother.
