Over 900 island families in Bien Unido receive aid from Capitol’s Service Caravan

BIEN UNIDO, Bohol — More than 900 families from two island barangays here received assistance from the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development during a Barangay Service Caravan led by Governor Aris Aumentado on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026.

A total of 465 families from Malingin Island and 497 families from Maomawan Island benefited from the distribution of food packs containing rice and canned goods.
In addition, 248 pupils of Malingin Elementary School were given school bags and supplies.

Free medicines and vitamins for livestock were also distributed, along with free legal services for residents.

Medical and dental services were likewise offered by the Provincial Health Office, including free consultations, tooth extractions, medicines, and vitamins. Government offices also presented livelihood opportunities for qualified beneficiaries through the Bohol Employment and Placement Office – Public Employment Service Office.

Fathers and male residents availed themselves of free haircuts provided by the Philippine Army.

The activity was carried out under the governor’s directive to conduct an inclusive Barangay Service Caravan in Malingin Island through the combined efforts of the Local Government Affairs Office, Medical Outreach Unit, Education Development Center of the Governor’s Office, Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, Provincial Health Office – Dental Section, Bohol Employment and Placement Office – Public Employment Service Office, Provincial Cooperative Development Office, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Provincial Treasurer’s Office, General Services Office, and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, in partnership with the local government of Bien Unido led by Mayor John Felix Garcia.

Provincial Board Member and former Pitogo mayor Fernando Estavilla also joined the activity, with support from 2nd District Rep. Van-van Aumentado.

Rep. Aumentado assured residents that political differences would not hinder the delivery of government services to island communities.

Governor Aumentado, for his part, reaffirmed his commitment to the island barangay. “You know how dear Isla Malingin is to me. We are here to bring services from the Capitol directly to you,” he said.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen law enforcement efforts to protect municipal waters from illegal fishing.

Barangay Captain Arne Nellas and the members of the Sangguniang Barangay warmly welcomed the provincial delegation and expressed gratitude for the outreach.

The governor added that more programs and services are lined up for island communities as part of the administration’s Strategic Governance Roadmap aimed at improving the lives of Boholanos in the province.
