TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol has formally kicked off preparations for the 2026 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit with a joint blessing and send-off ceremony for security personnel and operational assets on Wednesday in Panglao.
The event highlighted the province’s readiness to ensure a safe, secure, and orderly conduct of the international meetings, which will host delegates and officials from across the Asean region.
Representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Health, the Provincial Government of Bohol, and the local government units of Panglao and Dauis took part in the ceremony.
The Asean Task Group Bohol, led by Provincial Director of the Bohol Police Provincial Office Police Colonel Patricio Degay Jr., underscored strong inter-agency coordination, showcasing modern security assets and dedicated personnel tasked with both security operations and emergency response throughout the summit.
The program began with a Holy Mass at San Agustin Parish Church, officiated by Rev. Fr. Niño Delusa, who prayed for guidance, protection, and wisdom for all personnel. Immediately following the Mass, the Blessing of Security Forces and Resources formally marked the operational readiness and deployment of 1,717 highly trained personnel from multiple agencies.
To support round-the-clock operations, the Philippine National Police Bohol and partner agencies deployed key land and maritime assets, including patrol and high-speed response vessels, armored vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, rescue vehicles, and logistical transport units. All resources are operating under a unified command to ensure swift coordination, rapid response, and seamless security coverage throughout the summit.
In his address, Colonel Degay emphasized the PNP Bohol’s commitment to “kinasing-kasing nga serbisyo” (service from the heart), noting that the mission goes beyond traditional security operations. He highlighted the goal of creating a safe, welcoming, and memorable environment that will leave Asean delegates and visitors with a lasting positive impression of Bohol and the warmth of the Filipino people.
The ceremony was attended by regional and local government officials, as well as leaders from the security sector.
This year, Bohol joins Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Laoag, Iloilo, Tagaytay, and Clark as host locations for various Asean meetings.
Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado assured that Bohol is making all necessary preparations not only to safely host the events but also to showcase the province’s unique culture and tourism to visiting delegates. With a report from Helen Castaño
