BACLAYON, Bohol — Two men are now detained at the Baclayon police station after they were caught in the act of stealing a goat on Friday, December 26 at around 1 p.m. in Barangay Montaña, Baclayon.
Police identified the suspects as a 54-year-old and a 22-year-old, both residents of the town of Loboc. Authorities withheld their names.
According to the police report, the goat’s owner was on his way to his grazing area when he saw the two suspects already loading his goat into a white Nissan Urvan van.
The victim immediately pursued the suspects, leading to a brief chase. Due to the owner’s persistence, the van was eventually cornered, forcing the driver to swerve off the road. The vehicle veered to the roadside and crashed into a banana tree.
Angered because this was not the first time he had lost a goat, the victim bravely restrained the two suspects. Nearby residents quickly came to his aid until personnel from the Baclayon Police Station arrived at the scene.
Baclayon Police Chief PCPT Ariel Aspiras said that following the incident, other individuals reported to their station claiming they had also lost goats.
Police are now investigating whether the arrested suspects may be responsible for similar cases of goat theft reported in the towns of Bilar and Loboc.
The two suspects are currently under the custody of the Baclayon PNP and are set to face charges for theft.
