PANGLAO, BOHOL — A local business owner has raised concerns over alleged overpriced transport fares at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport after her visiting relatives were quoted P700 for a short 2.5-kilometer ride.
Chatty Sullivan, a Filipino entrepreneur based in Panglao, said she was at the airport to pick up her brother-in-law and his wife who arrived from Canada for their first visit to the Philippines when they encountered what she described as “infuriating” fare practices.
According to Sullivan, airport drivers offered a fare of P700 from the airport to FixRite in Barangay Bolod — a trip she said should only cost a fraction of the amount.
“We were quoted P700 from Airport to FixRite Bolod, a mere 2.5-km drive for three people,” she said. “That’s the same as the bus fare from Pasay to Baguio City. NAIA Terminal 3 to Victory Pasay is maximum P400 with Grab. Where do these people think they are? Geneva? Or they’re taking us via helicopter?”
Sullivan said police officers were present near the arrival area along with a posted tariff board, but the quoted fare “didn’t seem to matter.”
She added they eventually walked to the gate area and found a van offering the trip for P300 — less than half of the earlier quote.
“If they weren’t too tired, I would have asked them to walk to where the tuktuks are,” she said.
Frequent reports of “overcharging” have prompted calls from both locals and tourists for stricter monitoring and enforcement of transport regulations at the airport, which serves as the province’s main gateway for domestic and international guests.
As of press time, airport authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
