One person was killed, and another was injured following a shooting incident while canvassing in Tubigon town on Monday night, May 12.
The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. inside the compound of mayoral winner Marlon Amila in Barangay Guiwanon, Tubigon
The fatality was identified as Daniel Carnece, alias Dodong, a resident of Barangay Los Angeles in Ubay town.
He died instantly from gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and abdomen.
The companion of Carnice, a 42-year-old man from Barangay Guiwanon in Tubigon, was injured. He was brought to the Tubigon Community Hospital and later transferred to a private hospital in Tagbilaran City after sustaining gunshot wounds to the arm, stomach, and leg from an unknown caliber of weapon.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Norman Nuez, information officer of the Bohol Police Provincial Office, said that according to initial investigations by the Tubigon police, the two victims, along with others, were gathered in an empty lot in the barangay while awaiting the canvassing results. The group was supporting a local candidate in Tubigon.
One of the individuals in the gathering suddenly stood up, drew a firearm from his waist, and shot the victims.
After the shooting, people in the area tried to arrest the suspect, but he was able to escape despite efforts by the crowd to catch him.
The Tubigon police immediately launched an investigation and a hot pursuit operation against the suspect, who witnesses described as an older male from the town of Carmen, Bohol.
An Oplan Sumpo Krimen, set up checkpoints, and conduct roadblocks in strategic locations to capture the suspect as ordered by Police Colonel Arnel Banzon, head of the Bohol Provincial Police.
