The provincial government Bohol announces the launching of the highly-anticipated Governor’s Cup Season 2 at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City on April 4.
In collaboration with the Local Government Affairs and Office of the Governor (Special Events Section and Creatives Studio), the event will be joined by town mayors, Sangguniang Kabataan federated presidents, local youth and development officers, and sports coordinators from various municipalities.
Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, a staunch supporter of youth development initiatives, spearheaded the Governor’s Cup to revitalize sports tourism, foster camaraderie among participants and spectators, and deter youth from engaging in prohibited activities.
Speaking during the “Tingog Sa Kabatan-onan” program, Philip Sarmiento, Governor’s Cup deputy commissioner, outlined the ground rules for Season 2, which will adhere to NBA-like regulations.

Sarmiento emphasized its core objective of empowering Boholano youth, stressing that eligible participants must be Boholanos and registered voters in the province, with the option to represent either their municipality of birth or their parents’ birthplace.
He also clarified that individuals married to Boholanas are eligible to play as they are considered Boholanos through marriage.
Inspired by the ‘Boholano First’ policy of the late Boholano President Carlos P. Garcia, the Gov’s Cup is committed to nurturing the talents of Boholano youth.
The commissioners are dedicated to elevating basketball in Bohol, scouting for potential players who could compete in national and international tournaments, particularly from the junior division.
Sarmiento added that the positive impact of the Governor’s Cup is already evident in towns across Bohol, with numerous mayors rallying behind their players and enhancing local gymnasiums or covered courts.
The Governor’s Cup Season 2 will officially open on April 7 at the Calape Cultural Center and will be broadcasted via live streaming on social media platforms, providing exposure to players from different municipalities of Bohol.
Tagbilaran City emerged as first Governor’s Champion Junior Division while Talibon clinched the championship in the Seniors division in last year’s finals.
The Aumentado-Balite Administration oversees the Governor’s Cup, which is a component of the provincial government’s grassroots sports initiative that seeks to develop young Boholanos into elite athletes and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle through sports. (PIMO/ML)
