The Department of Education (DepEd) Tagbilaran City division celebrated its 21st founding anniversary on March 15 at the Bohol Cultural Center.

Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado graced the event and congratulated one of the active partners in the provincial government’s initiative to deliver inclusive, accessible, and quality education for all Boholanos.

“Makapasalig ako nga anaa kanunay ang inyong Kagamhanang Probinsyal nga musporta ug mu-abag kaninyo aron masiguro nato ang pagkab-ot sa musunod na henerasyon sa mga Tagbilaranon ug mga Bol-anon ug usa ka mas maayong kaugmaon,” Aumentado assured in his message.

He also recognized the educators as “new frontiers that will not only introduce innovations in our local education system but also instill the ‘MATATAG’ of values of patriotism, responsibility, competency, and meritocracy.”

In Dec. 2023, the provincial government, through the Education Development Center (EDC), approved the Special Education Fund (SEF) budget and aligned the SEF budget with the Division Education Development Plan.

EDC also approved a performance-based SEF budget, inclusive and balanced SEF programs, projects, and activities, and achieved a higher SEF utilization rate.

Meanwhile, city division founders, local executives, former and present school division superintendents, and assistant superintendents received a recognition plaque.

Dr. Salustino Jimenez, DepEd Region VII director; Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, schools division superintendent; Dr. John Ariel Lagura, officer-in-charge, assistant schools division superintendent; lawyer Abel Damalerio, representing Rep. Edgar Chatto; and Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap also attended the event.

The Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of the Philippines Senior Scouts headed the entrance of colors, followed by the singing of hymns led by the school’s teachers choir.

Teachers from Tagbilaran City Science High School, Cogon Elementary School, Tagbilaran City Elementary School—Special Education Center, and Booy Main and South Elementary Schools delivered intermission and cultural performances.

The Tagbilaran city division was an ad-interim school division in 2003 that evolved into a full-fledged division in 2008, culminating in the passage of Republic Act No. 10554 in 2013. (PiMO/JSS)
