A total of 61 former communist rebels on Wednesday, Oct. 18, renounced their support for the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and pledged allegiance to the government.

In a ceremony held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Bohol Provincial Capitol during the Provincial Peace and Order Council, the 61 former members of communist front organizations (CFOs) and communist-linked groups pledged their allegiance to the government.

“Makalipay sa dughan nga 61 ka CPP/NPA/ NDF mi surrender nato karong adlawa. Salamat sa pagsalig sa among administration,” said Gov. Aris Aumentado on a Facebook post.

Aumentado assured them that the government would help them assimilate into a life of peace and prosperity as citizens of the country.

Aumentado attributed the rebels’ successful return to the continuous collaboration between the police and military forces in various communities in the province.

The returnees will undergo a medical evaluation, livelihood training, and other activities to assist them in reintegrating into normal life.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development will provide them with livelihood assistance.
