The provincial government of Bohol has allocated P30 million as crop insurance for rice fields that are not irrigated as part of its efforts to prepare for the upcoming dry spell or El NiƱo.
The assistance committed by the administration of Gov. Aris Aumentado was aimed at mitigating its effects of the dry spell, thereby protecting the welfare of farmers and fisherfolks.
In addition, assistance will be given to various farmersā organizations for the acquisition of pumping units that will provide adequate water supply for vegetable farms.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) will also coordinate with various government agencies, including the National Irrigation Administration, to identify farmer-beneficiaries that will also receive help from the provincial government.
Provincial legal officer Handel Lagunay, who is also the acting provincial Administrator, said that cloud-seeding operations have already been prepared and is already been bid out.Ā
The mitigating measures are in line with the Aumentado administrationās commitment to Strategic Change Agenda. (JJA)
