Ubay celebrates 176th foundation day: Strong economy for the people

The municipality of Ubay marked its 176th founding anniversary on Friday, Sept. 1.

Rep. Vanessa Cadorna- Aumentado and Ubay Mayor Constantino Reyes and Vice Mayor Victor Bonghanoy, including the councilors and department heads, led the opening salvo of the celebration.

Lawyer Archie Francisco-Gamboa, former chief of the Philippine National Police, was the guest speaker.

“Remember your roots. Honor the visionaries who led the foundation of the town to a prosperous and united community,” he said.

It started with a Holy Mass at Ramon Magsaysay gymnasium. It was followed by the opening of the Agri-Fishery Trade Fair which displayed agricultural products and delicacies.

Reyes delivered his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) that he bared different projects and accomplishments.

In her speech, Aumentado expressed gratitude and joy that the Ubayanons are celebrating the town’s anniversary.

She said she filed a bill for the town’s cityhood.

She said that they are hoping for the cityhood to take place so it would help Ubay grow more and residents’ opportunities like employment would be strengthened.

Aumentado said with the recent developments in Ubay town, including the major investment of Pure Gold and other big establishments, the economy has become very bullish for Ubay.

Ubay, a first class municipality, has at least 82,000 residents.
