A fire broke out at Marcela Farms in Barangay Lomangog in Ubay town, Thursday afternoon, affecting at least 700 workers and leaving an estimated P398-million in damaged properties.
The fire, which was verified at around 2 p.m., quickly escalated into second alarm.
Fire out was declared at around 6:45 p.m.
According to a spot report, the fire originated from the dressing plant building.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
“We are grateful that all of our employees have safely vacated the facility. Everyone in the dressing plant remain unharmed and are getting emergency assistance from our response team,” Marcela Farms said in a statement.
Despite the damages caused by the incident, Marcela Farms is doing everything to ensure continued supply of poultry products for Bohol.
“While the fire did cause damage to the plant, the company has contingency plans in place to ensure uninterrupted production and distribution of chicken products,” their second statement read.
March is observed as Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines.
