A provincial lawmaker in Bohol is seeking the establishment of specialty hospitals in the region so residents in remote areas can have easier access to healthcare.

Lawyer Jamie Aumentado Villamor said she would file a resolution to endorse the establishments of Children’s and Lung hospitals to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) for them to analyze the possible measures.

The young legislator said that if these medical centers will push through, the Boholanos will benefit from it since the cost will not be higher than going to Manila to go to these hospitals.

“Establishment of specialized medical centers such as children, lung and heart hospitals in the Visayas is of strategic importance. We should bring the state of the art services closer to the Boholanos and people in the Visayas,” said Villamor.

“With this, we will be given access to specialized services without burden of added costs such as transportation and logistics. Dako kaayo na tabang natong mga bol-anon. Our present specialized hospitals mostly sit at Quezon City Metro Manila. I have had the occasions to assist patients from Bohol and all concerns point to the added expenses outside of the hospital bills,” she added.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr on his
State of the Nation Address (Sona) last July 25 said that he wants the Heart Center, Lung Center, Children’s Hospital and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute to be placed in other parts of the country for a stronger health care system.

“Napakinabangan natin nang husto ang malalaking specialty hospitals gaya ng Heart Center, Lung Center, Children’s Hospital at National Kidney and Transplant Institute. Kaya maliwanag na na hindi lang dapat dito sa National Capital Region, kundi maging sa ibang parte ng bansa. Maliwanag na hindi lamang dapat dito lamang sa National Capital Region kundi maging sa ibang parte ng bansa kailangan magdagdag ng ganitong uri ng mga pagamutan,” said Marcos.

(We have benefited greatly from large specialty hospitals such as the Heart Center, Lung Center, Children’s Hospital and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. So it is clear that it should not only be here in the National Capital Region, but also in other parts of the country… It is clear that not only here in the National Capital Region but also in other parts of the country should be added this type of hospitals.)

Villamor added that the government should also re-examine and carefully plan the institutionalization and establishments of health care facilities.

“However, the challenge is whether we have enough healthcare experts in the region or province such as specialists, doctors and nurses,” Villamor said.

2nd Bohol Rep. Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado on Thursday filed bills for the establishment of a Kidney and Transplant Institute in the province of Bohol for the Visayas and in Davao City for Mindanao and a Lung Center of the Philippines in the province of Bohol.

Cadorna-Aumentado said she refiled these bills which were filed by her husband Gov. Aris Aumentado who was then representative before Marcos planned to replicate these hospitals in other parts of the country.

Villamor also wants to examine the reported plan of 3rd district Rep. Alexie Besas- Tutor to make the Candijay and Jagna district hospitals under the supervision of the national government.

These district hospitals in Jagna and Candijay are managed by the provincial Capitol.

Villamor sees fit to support Tutor’s House bills which the previous SP refused to support Tutor’s bill. (BMJV MAO)
