As Boholanos exercise their civic duties of voting for the next leader, local police officers and a former town mayor had an altercation over an alleged vote-buying incident.

Former Panglao Mayor Toribio Bon said he is set to file a case against police officers for “brutality.”

Bon, 72, resident of Barangay Tangnan, Panglao said he tried to stop three men who were allegedly vote buying along the road in Tangnan on Monday, May 9.

Since there were police officers in the area, Bon called their attention and told them to stop these men.

The police asked him if he had evidence, to which he insisted that it is in plain view.

“Kaklaro anang vote buying,” Bon told police.

A video of his arrest went viral over social media.

Police officers tried to arrest him and tried to get him into the police car.

Bon claimed police hit him in his stomach with
a M16 rifle and that he had bruises in his hands and legs.

“At my age, ako musukol ug mangilog og pusil?” Bon said.

A local official and a lawyer came to mediate after they heard a commotion, telling police that Bon was a former mayor and a senior citizen.

In a press release, Lt. Amelito Melloria, chief of Panglao Police Station, said that around 9:30 in the morning of May 9, 2022, the duty desk officer received a report that there was an alarm at (Police Assistance Desk) PADS of Tangnan, Panglao, Bohol.

The responding team said Bon was shouting to the police officers in a very loud voice and at the same time pointed his finger to them saying, “mga buang mo nga pulisa mo, mga buta mo” (you are crazy, you are blind).

Responding officer Police Corporal Ireneo Lood according to the police statement told Bon several times to stop his actuation but the latter continued shouting them and pointing his finger to the responding team and attempted to spit the face of a policeman.

Police said Bon subsequently grabbed his issued firearm.

Police is now preparing formal charges against Bon on direct assault, resistance and disobedience to agent of person in authority. On the otherhand a separate complaint will be filed against councilor Noel Hormachuelos and Atty. Delambaca for Obstruction of Justice.

Bon said he will file case against the police officers.
