The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro (BOC-CDO) has destroyed 13.5 million pesos worth of smuggled onions inside the facility of Terra Cycliq Corporation in Barangay Mantibugao, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

The onions were incinerated and buried in a pit inside the destruction facility.

The onions were seized by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service CDO (CIIS-CDO) led by IO1 Oliver Valiente after acting on the received intelligence report regarding the shipment from China which was declared to contain “cream cheese” and “frozen puff pastries”. The shipment consigned to JDFallar Consumer Goods Trading arrived at Mindanao Container Terminal Sub-port last August 10, 2021.

Atty. Elvira Cruz, District Collector of the Port of CDO immediately issued alert order against the shipment and was subjected to 100% physical examination witnessed by CIIS, ESS-CDO led by SP/Capt. Abdila Maulana Jr., Customs examiner and representative of Customs Chamber and Brokers Inc. resulting in the discovery of onions, a violation under Sec. 1400 of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) for misdeclaration.

In her statement, District Collector Cruz reiterated her warning against unscrupulous importers that misdeclaration of goods defrauds the government of its rightful revenues.

A case for violation of the CMTA will be filed against the consignee of the smuggled goods.
