On Dec. 8, Mary Joy Olibinar will turn 14 years old.
She was named after the Virgin Mother that the Catholics will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the belief in the sinless lifespan and Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
Mary Joy was looking forward to her birthday on Wednesday. She thought of visiting the church to pray with her family and eat “biko” after church.
Sadly, her plans were derailed on Nov. 7.

While they were sleeping, her stepfather barged into the house and stabbed her mother and three-year-old younger sister using a 22-inch-long knife. He also stabbed Mary Joy andcut both her hands.
Mary Joy’s mother Laura said she was thankful Mary Joy’s two younger siblings were left unharmed.
After the incident, the suspect stabbed himself but he was later rescued.
On her birthday, Mary Joy wishes that someone can help her mother since she could no longer help her.
Despite the trauma, a smile from her perfectly reflects the optimism with which she looks at life.
To help, please contact her mother Laura Clavite Baloria at 09508975209.
