An American died in a hospital hours after his wife allegedly assaulted him inside their room in a resort in Panglao town on Friday, October 23.

Corporal Marlon Ciudadano of Panglao Police Station said Jackie Robert Holbrooks and his wife Vivian Gallardo had a heated argument prior to the commotion.

Gallardo allegedly beaten and stabbed Holbrooks using a fork, resulting in a hand injury.

Due to the commotion, the owner of Softstone Resort had to call the police for help.

They lived in the resort last August and roommates and neighbors said “they quarrelled almost everyday. ”

Police settled the couple. However, they quarrelled again.

The 63-year-old Holbrooks, who had difficulty in breathing, was found outside their room with another guest.

A cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed by resort staff while waiting for an ambulance to take him to a hospital in Tagbilaran City.

However, Holbrooks was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at 3:35 p.m.

Police said the victim’s immediate family had requested to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.
