A low pressure area (LPA) over the east of southern Luzon may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday said the LPA was spotted 1,035 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes at 3 p.m.

“The LPA may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours,” Pagasa said in its weather advisory.

Pagasa advised disaster risk reduction and management offices, as well as the public, to monitor updates.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the trough of the LPA.

Pagasa warned of possible floods or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains.
