Bohol Second District Representative Aristotle Aumentado’s “yes” vote to the Anti-Terrorism Bill was to hopefully help put an end to “bloody encounters”.
In explaining his vote, Aumentado cited the need to improve on the “shortcomings” of the Human Security Act, particularly with prosecuting suspected terrorists.
“It is my intention to avoid bloody encounters between government forces and those creating havoc in our communities and those wanting to bring down our government,” said Aumentado.
Aumentado justified his vote by saying terrorism could happen anytime, even during a pandemic.
HERE’S THE FULL STATEMENT OF REP. AUMENTADO:
It is my intention to avoid bloody encounters between government forces and those creating havoc in our communities and those wanting to bring down our government.
The anti-terrorism allows pre-emptive strike among these elements without having to undergo the long and tedious legal process. This fast action prevents bloodshed that many times involve civilians caught in the crossfire. Lives need not be lost.
I have confidence that under the Duterte presidency the administration of justice will prevail in that time the suspects will still be given their day in court.
I strongly condemn confrontational approaches in the solution of peace and order issues. I prefer preemptive action in order to avoid violence that may affect innocent civilians.
