The Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) has decided to suspend the holding of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) sports meet this month.
In a report by DYLA, it quoted Amy Villarmia, information officer of DepEd-7, in saying that this was the initial agreement from the delegates of CVRAA today.
“There is already an initial agreement on the management side to discourage the traveling of teachers and students to any national and regional activity (due to the threat of novel corona virus),” Villarmia said.
The venue of the CVRAA was initally decided to be held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Feb. 23-28.
DepEd officials has taken into consideration the recent developments after it was revealed by the Department of Health (DOH) that the Chinese couple who tested positive of the novel coronavirus had a history of travel in Dumaguete City.
“We don’t want to risk the well being of our students. Thus our regional director also agrees to suspend the activity,” Villarmia added.
DepEd will still issue a memorandum order about this.
