A 40-year-old habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) driver was arrested after he tried to smuggle a sachet of suspected shabu stuffed inside one of the ensaymada breads to a detainee who was about to attend a hearing at the Hall of Justice in Tagbilaran City on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

The suspect was identified as Leo Andoy Subingsubing, a resident of Purok 6 Magsaysay Street in Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City.

According to Lt. Col. Oscar Boyles, chief of Tagbilaran City Police Station, at 9 a.m. Subingsubing casually handed over a brown paper bag filled with assorted breads to a detainee identified as William Dolauta, who was about to attend a court hearing at the Hall of Justice.

However, one of the jail guards identified as JO3 Julius Lacia had noticed it and accosted Subingsubing.

When the paper bag was examined, Lacia discovered a medium-size sachet of suspected shabu contained in a tightly sealed condom and was stuffed inside the ensaymada bread.

As a standard operating procedure, detainees are not allowed to receive any item outside the detention facility.

Subingsubing denied the allegation saying he was unaware that shabu was stuffed inside the bread. He added that it was a friend who gave it to him.

The suspect is now under the custody of Tagbilaran City Police Station.

He will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
