As the province celebrates the annual Sandugo festival this July, the city of Tagbilaran’s LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Intersex) Community has brought forth only the finest and most meaningful events fit for the celebration–the first ever Sandugo Queen pageant.
The search for Sandugo Queen 2019 is open to transgender females that best suit the five titles up for grabs in a competition that showcases their beauty, wit and talent.
This year, the pageant will have 15 official candidates to be chosen among the hundred applicants.
The candidates shall represent different towns in the province of Bohol.
During the sashing ceremony Saturday, June 15 at the New Provincial Capitol, the candidates shared a piece of their mind and showed off their striking personalities.
Sandugo Queen 2019 pageant chairman Khim Ryan Laway Magtagad said she is pleased with this year’s set of finalists, sharing that trimming them down to 20 was a difficult job what with the applicants’ dedication and charm.
“This is not just about beauty and wit. The pageant is bringing back the pageant for alternative and making difference,” said Khim.
She added that the candidates have their own advocacies and the pageant “will be a platform that when they will become part of Sandugo Queen they have the title to touch the lives of other people.”
With the theme “Raise Your Flag and Stand Proud,” Sandugo Queen 2019 will crown winners for Sandugo Queen, Sandugo Queen Tourism, Sandugo Queen Youth Ambassadress, Sandugo Queen 1st Princess and Sandugo Queen 2nd Princess.
The Swimwear competition is happening on July 5, at 1 p.m. at the BQ Mall, while the Talent Competition is on July 17, 1 p.m. at the Island City Mall.
The very first Sandugo Queen will be hailed during the coronation night on July 26, 8 p.m. at the Bohol Cultural Center.
The pageant supports a number of charities and advocacies.
