TAGBILARAN CITY — Preparations are in the final stretch for the opening of the Governor’s Cup Volleyball League Season 2, with more than 700 athletes, coaches, and sports officials expected to participate in the province-wide tournament.
The provincial government of Bohol, led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, held an Executive Committee Meeting on July 29 at the CPG Hall of the Provincial Capitol to finalize operational plans ahead of the league’s opening.
Organized by the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) in partnership with the Bohol Volleyball Association (BVA), the tournament has already secured initial participation from 31 local government units (LGUs).
During the meeting, committee members reviewed the league’s implementation plans, including mandatory coaches’ retooling, an advocacy camp, the official launching and opening ceremonies, and the schedule of conference games to ensure the smooth rollout of the competition.
PYDO Sports Division Head Gelvi John Bongato presented the tournament framework, logistics, program flow, and implementation timeline, while committee members coordinated responsibilities leading up to the opening of the league.
One of the major pre-tournament activities is the Mandatory Coaches’ Retooling on August 1 at the Bohol Cultural Center. The whole-day orientation will cover the latest FIVB 2025–2028 Rules, tournament mechanics, leadership responsibilities, sportsmanship, and the code of conduct for participating teams.
Organizers said the activity will also provide an opportunity to review lessons from the inaugural season and gather recommendations to further improve the competition.
Also scheduled on August 1 is the Mandatory Advocacy Camp, which is expected to bring together 727 participants. The program will feature sessions on anti-substance abuse, HIV/AIDS prevention, mental health awareness, and the Bohol Island Geopark, reflecting the provincial government’s goal of developing not only competitive athletes but also responsible and values-driven young leaders.
Preparations for the league’s official launching and opening ceremonies on August 7 at Reyna’s Garden Pavilion Hall were likewise finalized during the meeting.
The opening program will include the registration of local chief executives, local sports development officers, and team managers, followed by a solidarity meeting highlighting the PYDO’s Youth IMPACT initiatives, the Liga Program, and the presentation of the tournament’s official rules, guidelines, mechanics, and calendar.
Tournament action begins on August 8 with the Eastern Conference matches in San Miguel and Carmen, followed by the Western Conference games on August 9 in Baclayon and Tubigon.
As of July 28, organizers had received initial confirmations from 31 LGUs, with 30 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams registered. More teams are expected to confirm their participation before the tournament officially opens.
The Executive Committee also finalized logistical arrangements covering registration, venue preparation, audiovisual requirements, meals, documentation, athlete identification cards, certificates, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the successful staging of the province-wide volleyball competition.
Among those who attended the meeting were BVA President Lemuel Belarmino, along with representatives from the Governor’s Office–Public Affairs, International Relations and Special Projects, Provincial Security Force, Liga ng mga Liga sa Sports Association, GO-Creatives, and other partner offices.
