TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Mayor Jane Yap on Wednesday personally inspected the security situation in several public schools in Tagbilaran City as part of efforts to strengthen campus safety and protect students.
Accompanied by Tagbilaran City Police Chief Lt. Col. Joey Bicoy, Yap visited Dao Elementary School, Tagbilaran City Science High School, and Cabawan–City of Tagbilaran National High School to assess existing security measures and identify areas for improvement.
The mayor said the Local School Board has already prioritized the installation of additional upgraded closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems that will be linked to the city’s command center, as well as the procurement of metal detectors to further enhance school security.
Yap also instructed Bicoy to conduct a comprehensive security assessment and develop a safety plan for all 27 public schools under the Department of Education (DepEd) in Tagbilaran City.
“School safety remains one of our top priorities. We want to ensure that our students, teachers, and school personnel feel secure and protected while inside our campuses,” Yap said.
While emphasizing the importance of physical security measures, the mayor also called on parents and families to play an active role in safeguarding the well-being of children.
She urged parents to regularly check on their children, listen to their concerns, and encourage them to openly share their fears and problems rather than keeping them to themselves.
“Sometimes the dangers we fear are not outside the school gates, but the silent battles our children are fighting inside,” Yap said.
The mayor stressed that protecting children goes beyond infrastructure and law enforcement, noting that emotional support and open communication within families are equally vital.
“As a mother and as your mayor, protecting every child will always be our priority,” she added.
The city government’s move comes amid growing concerns over school safety and student welfare, prompting local officials to strengthen both security measures and support systems in schools across Tagbilaran.
