Endurance athlete and fiscal Ingemar Macarine, popularly known as the “Pinoy Aquaman”, has conquered Lake Michigan in Illinois, USA Sunday, July 24 (July 25, 2022 Manila Time) .

His Lake Michigan swim was his fifth swim in the USA after being hiatus for two years because of the pandemic.

The fiscal who is based in Bohol was joined by two other Filipino-American multi-sports enthusiasts, Rey Letada and Nick Regorgo.

“Lake Michigan swim done in 2Hours and 57Minutes covering a distance of 5KM. We had to shorten the swim from the planned 10KM because of bad weather conditions. Only Bro Rey Letada and I completed the swim. Neophyte Open Water Swimmers Nick Regorgo, Cynthia Garcia, and Kylee Marie Guiriba had to get out of the water early part of the swim for safety reasons. They only resumed swimming when the waves slowed down a little,” said Macarine.

The swim took time because they only had one escort boat. They had to wait for the other swimmers to finish the swim together.

Macarine said the water temperature during the swim was 62 degrees Fahrenheit.

” I did not have enough cold acclimatization training so the water felt so cold. The wet suit helped but it could only protect the covered part of my body,” he said.

The purpose of the swim is to promote marine conservation in the Philippines and a healthy lifestyle.

It was also memory of her friend and fellow open water swimmer Lisa Amorao who passed away in May 2022.

Macarine has earned the nickname “Pinoy Aquaman” for his numerous open water swims here and abroad.
