Lightning kills 1, injures 4 in Panglao

At least one person died, while four others were injured after lightning struck in two different spots in Panglao Island on Sunday, November 24.

The fatality was identified as Maria Jendeliza Monteza, 35, a resident of Barangay Poblacion in Panglao.

Monteza was reportedly gathering seashells together with her husband and neighbors Sunday past noon at Sitio Daorong, Barangay Danao, when the lightning hit, according to Master Sergeant Gregorio Perocho of Panglao Police Station.

As Monteza was directly hit in the head, her companions were unharmed.

In another area of Panglao, three other persons were injured when lightning struck them while enjoying Virgin island, a famous sandbar.

The victims, suffering from light burns, were identified as Inocentes Demigos, 62; Jessa Mae Pandan, 16; and Mitch Tabiliran, 19, all residents of Barangay Anislag, Corella town .

They were brought to a hospital in Tagbilaran for further treatment.
