Three people died during a fire in Barangay Poblacion 2 in Tagbilaran City early Friday morning, Mayor Jane Yap said.

“Tulo ang recovered dead body (papa,mama ug anak) nga na kit-an ga gakos sa 2nd Floor sa balay kundiin ga sugod ag sunog sa ilang ground floor,” said Yap on her Facebook post.

However, she did not provide the names or ages of the deceased.

Yap said the other child was spared who slept in the church.

“Naka survive ag usa ka anak nga natulog sa simbahan kay sakristan ug mo serve padung sa misa. Ang mga silingan para ma luwas ni ambak sa dagat ug nag langoy padung sa kina duolan nga area sa pantalan ug gym,” Yap added.

At least 85 families were left homeless after a devastating blaze stripped of their homes after a two-hour inferno gutted at least 60 houses.

According initial report from the City Fire Department, the fire started in one of the houses built near the sea at around 12:10 a. m.

The fire quickly spead to adjacent houses as most of them were made of wood and light materials,

The victims were brought to the barangay gym where they were given assistance from the city government headed by Yap.

The cause of the fire could not yet be determined as probers were still gathering clues and evidence from the site.
