At least 85 families were left homeless after a devastating blaze stripped of their homes after a two-hour inferno gutted at least 60 houses in Barangay Poblacion 2 in Tagbilaran City on Friday early morning, Dec. 23, 2022, two days before Christmas Day.

According initial report from the City Fire Department, the fire started in one of the houses built near the sea at around 12:10 a. m.

The fire quickly spead to adjacent houses as most of them were made of wood and light materials.

The victims were brought to the barangay gym where they were given assistance from the city government headed by Mayor Jane Yap.

“Atong mga katawhan sa CSWD wala gipaugmaan para mag- assess. Karun dayun naa sila para mag – assess para ang atong financial support mapadali kay hapit na ang pasko,” said Yap who personally supervised the operation.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined by investigators.
