Eight passengers and two crew members were rescued after a motorized banca sank off Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City early Wednesday morning.
According to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Central Visayas, the banca left Barangay San Vicente in Olango at past 4 a.m. It was headed to Mactan Island when it encountered big waves around 4:30 a.m.
The ill-fated motorbanca capsized in the vicinity waters off in between Angasil Port and Sta. Rosa Port, Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City.
Another banca MBCA Joseph came to aid. They were later rescued by the PCG and brought the eight passengers and two crew to Hilton Port and Sta Rosa Port.

The boatman defied an order of the PCG disallowing small vessel from sailing since there was a gale warning raised.
However, passengers told PCG they wanted to go work after they were stranded for almost four days in the island.
Gale warning is still up in the Central Visayas and small bancas were not allowed to sail due to the rough sea conditions.
