A public market and 11 houses in Lavezares town, Northern Samar after a tornado hit it on Saturday morning.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the tornado affected the barangays of Libas, Cataogan, and San Miguel.

Also affected by the natural calamity is the power connection at Upper Bunga of Sabang Tabok to San Miguel.

Communication signal for Globe was also reported offline as of 1:04p.m.

MDRRMO Lavezares continues to monitor the situation.

According to National Geographic, a tornado forms when changes in wind speed and direction create a horizontal spinning effect within a storm cell. This effect is when tipped vertically by rising air moving up through the thunderclouds.

As early as 8a.m., a thunderstorm advisory was issued by state weather bureau Pagasa.

At 10a.m., Pagasa issued a rainfall advisory including Northern Samar province.
