A 10-year-old Grade 5 student killed himself Thursday noon after his mother allegedly scolded him for not finishing a household chore in Talibon town, Bohol.
John (not his real name) was found hanging lifeless in his room.
While the mother was washing clothes, she noticed that her son went inside his room.
When she checked, she already found her son hanging with a belt around his neck that was tied to a steel bar.
John was rushed to Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital where a doctor declared him dead on arrival, according to Police Corporal Mark Yana of Talibon Police Station.
Reports said that the mother scolded her son for not finishing some household chores.
“Naay sugo unya wala matuman sa bata. Mao to gikasab-an unya gihadlok sa inahan,” said Yana.
This led to a confrontation during which the victim’s mother, out of anger, warned him that he would tell his father to skin his face, Yana said.
The death of the boy was the sixth case of suicide reported in Bohol since June.
Last Thursday night, a 17-year-old girl was found dead in an apparent suicide in Tagbilaran City.
