With President Rodrigo Duterte delivering his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Congress on Monday, the militant groups headed by Hugpong sa mga Mag-uumang Bol-anon (Humabol), held a protest rally in the capital city of Tagbilaran on Monday, July 22.
More or less 400 members joined the protest rally, Danilo Olayvar, secretary-general of Humabol, told GMA News.
It started with a march to B. Inting Street infront of Tagbilaran City Square from Cogon Shrine.
Different issues were tackled by different speakers- the West Philippine Sea, United Nations Human Rights Council, government’s economic policy and plans on Charter Change, rice tarrification, harassment and killing of farmers, human rights violation, low wages, and labor contractualization in the province.
Olayvar said he was hoping that through this protest action, the people would be more informed about the issues that the country were facing.
They also asked to free political prisoner Alvin Fortaliza since activism is not a crime.
