For many people, the thought of picking up a python is terrifying. But for some residents in Barangay Cogon in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, no victim is too scary, or too scaly, to rescue.

When a fire blazed the Cogon Public Market at past 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, several snakes were crawling away from the market.
The reptiles, which included several five- to six-foot-long pythons, were rescued by some residents.
Dogs were able to escape the fire, as well. However, some pet owners were not able to save their cats.
One snake also failed to escape when the fire engulfed him that afternoon.
On Thursday, July 11, some vendors returned to the already burning market to retrieve some valuables that they can still use.
