Cebu City Mayor-elect Edgar Labella will arrive at a bare office on Monday after outgoing Mayor Tomas Osmeña decided to clear it of its fixtures.
On Friday, City hall employees, especially those who hold offices adjacent to the mayor’s office in Cebu City, were surprised to find out that Osmeña’s office has been totally wiped of equipment including tiles, ceilings, and dividers.
Labella was supposed to occupy Osmeña’s former office at the 8th floor of the city hall on Monday as he awaits the completion of his permanent office at the building’s ground floor.
Edgardo Ong, area security of the Cebu City Hall building, showed a copy of the certification from the office of the Department of General Services (DGS) that the removal was authorized.
The certification was signed by Ronaldo Malacora, the officer-in-charge of the DGS and issued on June 26.
Reports state that there were 27 people from a construction company who went up to the office on Thursday evening.
Cabinets, shelves, claddings, light and plumbing fixtures including the ceiling and floor works were all removed.
According to the certification, those were the personal properties of outgoing City Mayor Tomas Osmena.
Security guards did not bother to stop them since they were backed with an authorization.
Osmeña has yet to release a statement on the matter.
